About me

I’m a visual communicator who loves a challenge.

Melissa Nilsson

I'm a digital designer and maker of things. Born and raised in the Washington, DC area, I worked and studied in DC and San Francisco before moving to Stockholm in 2011.

As Head of Design in eCom at Nets/Nexi Group, I developed design strategy in a new e-commerce division. I built and managed a team of designers and researchers to support product development in the Nordics and DACH regions from a user-first prespective. We collaborated on a new design system, identified user experience issues in the existing product, and contributed to the development of new products and platforms.

Over the course of a decade working as a digital designer at the boutique agency Perfect Fools, I produced wildly popular mobile apps (like the voting app for Melodifestivalen), web campaigns, print collateral and brand building for clients ranging from multinational corporations to nonprofits and independent startups. I’ve been responsible for art direction, concept development, mobile and web design, illustration, animation, and pre-press production.

In my spare time, I am a constant learner and skills collector, perpetually keeping my hands busy. I make handmade stoneware mugs under the moniker Stoneware Weekend. My Noodley Arms illustrations are now available on tshirts. I paint, knit, sew, and dabble in building guitars.
